New Home Construction Rebate

You could be eligible for $10,000 through AHFC's New Home Construction Rebate. Now accepting applications, this state-funded rebate would be paid to eligible applicants after completion of new home construction.

Basic eligibility requirements are listed below.

  • The home's foundation must be completed and inspected on or after January 2, 2025.
  • The home must meet a minimum 5-Star Plus or higher energy efficiency standard.
  • The home must be owner-occupied.
  • The rebate is restricted to single-family residences, duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes where the homeowner occupies one unit.
  • Payment is contingent on new home construction being completed within 18 months of application.
  • The rebate is not available for developers, investment properties and non-residential buildings.

Get Ready To Apply

To complete your application, you'll need the following information readily available. 

If the home is not completed at the time of application: 

  • If working with a contractor, a copy of the contract with the builder. AHFC will verify the contractor has an active Contractor License and a Residential Endorsement License.
  • Proof of a commitment that the home will meet a 5-Star Plus or higher energy efficiency standard in the form of either an Energy Rating From Plans* or a letter signed by the builder.
  • Upon completion of construction, you will also need to supply:
    • Proof of ownership (e.g., title transfer deed, warranty deed, or tax assessment notice).
    • A PUR-101 showing that the home meets a 5-Star Plus or higher energy efficiency standard.*
    • A PUR-102 or Certificate of Occupancy.
    • W-9 for tax purposes.

If the home is already completed at the time of application: 

  • Proof of ownership (e.g., title transfer deed, warranty deed, or tax assessment notice).
  • A PUR-101 showing that the home meets a 5-Star Plus or higher energy efficiency standard.*
  • A PUR-102 or Certificate of Occupancy.
  • W-9 for tax purposes.
  • If contractor-built, AHFC will verify the contractor has an active Contractor License and a Residential Endorsement License.

*Proof of required energy efficiency standard must be provided by an AHFC-authorized energy rater. Find more information and search for an energy rater below. 

Application Process

The basics of the application process are:

  • You submit a completed application and all required supporting documents.
  • AHFC reviews all application materials and if determined eligible, you will be preliminarily approved for the rebate (if home construction is not completed) or approved (if home construction is already completed).
  • If preliminarily approved, you will need to submit additional materials prior to completion of home construction for final approval.
  • Once application materials are submitted and AHFC confirms that you have met all program requirements, funds will be distributed to you, the homeowner. 
  • Once awarded, homeowners may determine how to utilize the rebate and will receive a 1099-G. Applicants should consult a tax professional for any tax consequences that result.

If you are an owner-builder and constructing your own home, you may need provide your own documentation that the home meets a 5-Star Plus or higher energy efficiency standard. Proof must come from an AHFC-authorized energy rater. These raters operate independently and AHFC does not endorse or recommend any specific company or energy rater.
